JOURNAL

December 2009

Welcome to the Advent 2009 edition of our online journal.  In it we offer words to complement the richness of those Sacred Words from the Prophet Isaiah and the Gospel Evangelists that are offered as food for our souls during this Season.  Our reflection by Romeo J. Bonsaint, SC, PhD, invites us to the ways of being that will dispose us toward the desire of God to give birth to the Word in our souls.  The feature by Reginald D. Cruz, CFX, PhD introduces us to the extraordinary women religious of 17th century Manila who created a space within which they could be available for the work of God in their souls.  The book reviews introduce several books on saints, past and present, who became bearers of Divine life and love to the world.  The reviews also introduce us to several recent books that remind us that, above all, the great religious traditions are communities of those who wait in the darkness of doubt and unknowing for the gift of Divine light and life.  We wish you all a most blessed keeping of the Advent Season and a most joyous and love-filled celebration of Christmas.

John D. Hamilton, CFX

ADVENT PRAYER

Lord

At Christmastime we pray

For the birth of the Word

In our Soul

And in the world.

Let this birth be the longed-for

Awakening of our spirit

Within the Heart of your Love,

Jesus Christ.

Lead us by your love

And by your grace poured out into our lives

To an awareness of your presence with us

In all we undergo.

Nurture within us an attitude of abandonment,

An abiding receptivity to your desire to be with us.

Help us:

To enter into your Truth,

To behold your Word,

To rest in your Presence,

And to realize your gift of Eternal Life.
